  • Downtown’s War Memorial Building is set to undergo a $61 million upgrade. Skanska, one of the world’s largest construction firms, is leading renovations of the 2,000-seat auditorium, which is owned by the state, according to Metro records. A permit was issued this week to conduct complete interior demolition of the north tower and ground level of the performance hall. The multimillion-facelift includes the renovation of roofing and windows, the reconfiguration of interior spaces and new mechanical and electrical systems, according to the permit. The construction cost for the 1920s building is valued at $61.02 million. Nashville-based Centric Architecture, Barge Civil Associates, EOA Architecture, EMC Structural Engineers and Smith Seckman Reid are also involved in the project.
