It has rightly been called iconic. One of the premier early examples of Greek Revival Architecture in America, the Tennessee State Capitol (1845-1859) is a masterwork of famed Philadelphia architect William Strickland. The grand structure heavily influenced the spread of our young country’s ideals to the rest of the world. It is from these hallowed halls that Tennessee became the final state needed to ratify the 19th amendment in 1920, granting women the right to vote.

For Centric Architecture, support of this storied space was driven by passion and a sense of mission. Centric is proud to have been involved on nearly every major restoration project for the Capitol since 1986. Today, this building is one of a small handful of antebellum state capitols in existence still operating as the seat of power. As a citizen, have you visited the Capitol recently? Take a moment to step inside, soak in its revitalized beauty, and feel the echoes of history that reverberate among the historic halls.

“It’s not often that you get to work on five major restoration efforts on one statehouse. And what an incredible example of classical revival architecture it is! Our latest commission on the Capitol is to restore its magnificent 80-foot-tall cupola which made it the tallest structure in Nashville for over 100 years. Once completed, the Capitol will display the strength and beauty of Tennessee to the rest of the United States and to the world. It is one of the milestones of my career.” — Jim Thompson, Project Manager
